Air fryer cajun butter baby potatoes

Air fryer Cajun butter baby potatoes — Crispy, flavour-packed and effortless

If there’s one kitchen gadget that has changed the game for home cooks and chefs like me, it’s the all-mighty air fryer. Whether you’re juggling work, family, or just cba with the faff of full-blown meal prep, the air fryer delivers crispy, golden results without the wait, and most importantly, without sacrificing flavour. I refuse to have a bland, sad meal.

And let’s be honest: what’s better than potatoes? They’re the ultimate comfort food. These air fryer Cajun butter baby potatoes are the perfect example of how easy it can be to create something simple yet delicious with minimal effort. No par-boiling, no flipping halfway, no preheating the oven — just tender-on-the-inside, crispy-on-the-outside potatoes seasoned to perfection. I could cry happy tears.

Why you’ll love this air fryer potato recipe

This recipe is a dream for busy weeknights or laid-back weekends. You’ll only need five basic ingredients: baby potatoes, butter, Cajun seasoning, garlic granules, and smoked paprika. Obvs a lil sprinkle of salt and pepper too. Odds are, you already have most of these in your kitchen cupboard. The Cajun butter brings just the right balance of smoky heat and rich flavour, coating every golden potato in deliciousness.

And the best part? No need to boil the potatoes beforehand. Just toss them in the spiced butter mix, pop them in the air fryer basket, and let it work its magic.

Air fryer tips for banging spuds every time

Whether you’re using this recipe or cooking any variety of air fryer potatoes — roasties, wedges, or chips — these tips will help you get top-tier results:

  • Don’t overcrowd the basket. Air fryers need space to circulate hot air. If you’re doubling the batch, cook in two rounds or use a dual-drawer air fryer.

  • Shake or stir halfway. For extra even crispiness, give your potatoes a gentle shake or stir around the 20-minute mark (not essential for baby potatoes, but a bonus if you like things extra golden).

  • Dry your potatoes well. Even if you rinse them, make sure they’re fully dry before tossing in butter and seasoning. Moisture = sogginess.

  • Preheat if your model recommends it. Not all air fryers need preheating, but some do. Check your manual to see what’s best. Once you’ve got your head around your own air fryer, you’ll be able to adapt recipes much easier.

  • Choose the right potato. For baby potatoes, barely any peeling or chopping is required. They hold their shape and cook evenly in the air fryer — ideal for quick recipes.

The perfect pairings

These air fryer cajun potatoes make a bloomin amazing side dish for just about anything — roast chicken, grilled halloumi, BBQ ribs, or even added to a big salad for a spicy crunch. Or, pair them with eggs for a bold brunch twist.

Air fryer cajun butter baby potatoes are here to simplify dinner.
Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 45 mins
Total Time: 55 mins
Serves 4

Ingredients

Metric Imperial

    Metric

  • 1kg baby potatoes
  • 50g soft butter
  • 1 tsp garlic granules
  • 1 heaped tbsp cajun seasoning
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper
  • Imperial

  • 2.2lbs baby potatoes
  • 2oz soft butter
  • 1 tsp garlic granules
  • 1 heaped tbsp cajun seasoning
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix together the softened butter, garlic granules, cajun seasoning and smoked paprika with a pinch of salt and pepper. Halve any particularly large potatoes and chuck them all into the air fryer drawer.
  2. Spoon over all of the cajun butter and cook at 200ºc/400ºf for 45-50 minutes. Give them a shake about halfway through, but be careful of the hot butter splashing!
  3. When the potatoes are completely tender all the way through and nicely coloured on the outside, serve up in a bowl with the remaining butter poured over the top. I like these as a BBQ side dish, but they're great with pan fried fish too.
